My microSD Card Shows Small Capacity on a PC
MicroSD cards that have been imaged for the Raspberry Pi with operating systems like Raspbian and OpenELEC have partitioning and file systems in place. If you insert one of these cards into your PC or Mac, you'll see a very small capacity that doesn't match the card size. This is normal, because of the partitioning and file systems that are ready to run your Pi.
To re-image the card with another OS or wipe the card to use all of its capacity for storage, simply re-format the microSD card using the SD Card Formatter software tool. Once formatted, the full capacity of the card will be visible again.
